The natives in the away end at Watford were restless with comments like "Jurgen Rodgers" and "clown" most audible together with increasing frustration and anger with every "look at the mess we've made defending another corner" face made by the manager. Added to this, the keyboards up and down the land are being fired up, self appointed tactical expert Sir Joseph of the Barton has decreed that the Boss is nothing more "than a giant German cheerleader" and the feeling is that Klopp is in the crosshairs.
It feels like a perfect storm:
- unable to attract the two key targets from perceived "smaller" clubs and thus having a weaker team than we had hoped for to start the season. This comes after a non existent January transfer foray.
- only (publicly at least) having two targets with no alternatives if the targets fail to land.
- the perceived mixed messages from owners and manager with each pronouncement regarding Coutinho.
- announcing only this week that he is happy with the defence and then watching his selected team perform as we have always done against physical opposition, a high ball and corners.
- recalling Moreno to the team (never mind the squad) when he has not improved from the player deemed a permanent substitute last season.
Has the manager been complicit in the poor window by stubbornly sticking solely to two players he wanted? Has he been let down by the board? Has he been complacent in not addressing (by coaching or buying) the defence and goalkeeping situation? Has he trusted his superiors to both land the players he wanted and manage the Phil situation better? Are we getting better or standing still as we seem to have to score at least two goals a game to get something from it?
From a source I cannot name but I trust implicitly, he is extremely unhappy behind the scenes with a number of things (reporting lines being a major issue) and a fall out of the CL qualifiers is likely to see dramatic consequences. Of course, a few wins with cleans sheets make this moot...
