The Reds had agreed a £7m fee with Nacional for Coates when Atletico came in with a late £8m bid. This has delayed Coates's transfer as Nacional had to consider the new bid, but it won't halt the move as the defender won't even be speaking to the Spanish side as he only wants to sign for Liverpool.
Nacional have agreed to respect Coates's wishes and the transfer should be completed shortly.
