He said: "We are hopeful of making a signing and we are very close. But it's important that we get the right players as it's not always about signing the best players, but the players you need.
"I don't want to talk about names because it is always easy to talk. I prefer to sign the player and then talk about it afterwards.
"We would like to strengthen and we are working very hard to do so. We are improving all the time and hopefully we can keep moving in that direction."
Mauricio Pellegrino and Fernando Morientes are both expected to join Liverpool this month.
