"Liverpool were always my number one choice to stay, but you cannot always have what you want in football," he said. "I still have my house here and have no plans to sell, and I get back to the area whenever I can.
"I have so many good memories of my time here. The Champions League final, the Super Cup and FA Cup finals, I feel bonded to this club.
"The win in Istanbul is the highlight. It was such a crazy game and a crazy night. No player could ever forget that and I imagine the fans will always remember it.
"That is what bonds us, the players and the fans who were all there that night. It is something that will stay with me forever.
"I am not a Liverpool player anymore. Sometimes you have to move on whether you want to or not, but I am happy at Marseille. It is the club I supported as a boy and where I was brought up.
"But I must admit it will be very emotional for me to play again at Anfield, and seeing former team-mates and the people at the club.
"And I want to see the Liverpool fans again too. It is something I have always wanted to do again but until this draw I wondered whether it would ever be possible.
"Champions League nights at Anfield are always special, I will enjoy being involved in another one."
