The win puts them top of the group and gives the team a boost ahead of Sunday's derby against Everton.
"He's a wonderful technician Stewart, great technique off either foot and his strike was wonderful," said Rodgers.
"I just think he's had a rough ride here lately, he's had a difficult time but he got a great round of applause there from the Kop and that'll give him a massive lift going forward.
"He's a good guy, working very hard and a very important member of the team."
