"We always do it the hard way, but it doesn't matter how you do it as long as you get there in the end," he said. "Credit to Cardiff, they made a real good game of it, but unfortunately there's always got to be one loser because they didn't deserve to lose today maybe.

"When you go a goal down you've got to dig in and you've got to hope that you get back in it, but I had belief in the team that if we kept passing the ball the breakthrough would come becuase we're a good team."

On the penalties he added: "The keeper made a great save from me and Charlie (Adam) changed his mind there, but we've got the best goalkeeper in the world, so you always have belief you'll get out of it.

"I think the important thing now is to enjoy this cup final and build on it. It would be stupid to just accept this. We want more."
