Heartbreak at Wembley

Last updated : 05 May 2012 By Adam Bryant

The Reds started slowly and were quickly punished with a Ramires goal on 10 mins.

Kenny Dalglish's men tried to get into the game and started the second half better, but conceded again, this time to Didier Drogba.

It wasn't until Andy Carroll came on with half an hour remaining that Liverpool looked likely to get back into the game. The big man scored with a wonderfully powerful strike on 63 minutes and gave us all hope.

As the Reds piled on the pressure it was Carroll again who headed goalward, only for Petr Cech to appear to claw the ball back from the net.

Whether the ball had totally crossed the line is debatable. It was the last real chance of the game for Liverpool but wasn't to be.
