Liverpool's victory over Newcastle on Friday gave the club a boost, while City's shock defeat by Henderson's former club Sunderland shook their neighbours across the East Lancs.
“We take belief from how we did against them at Anfield,” said Henderson. “We know City are a good team, but we just need to play our own game.
“We’re doing fine, but we need to finish teams off more often – we’re playing some good stuff in the build-up to chances. We are on the right path. We go to City with a positive attitude.
“I don’t think City are leagues ahead of the rest of us. Obviously they have some outstanding players and are a good team, but we have some outstanding players too and we’ll go there looking to put up a good fight.
“Beating Newcastle gives us a massive boost. We’ll go into the game in confidence, and we’ll need to produce a good performance.”
