"We're not going to get lost in decisions that happen during the game, we just want to look at the players' attitude and commitment," he said after the 3-2 victory.

When you consider what they've been through we've not had the best of time but to have a man sent off and come away here with 3-2 victory speaks credit for them and we're delighted.

"We got three points from the game and two players who have got themselves close to being available for selection on Saturday so its a smashing day for us.

"I always thought we had a chance. In the second half we did really well. We got possession of the ball and they held it very well.

"We're just delighted with the victory and give the boys the credit they deserve because they've had a bit of abuse recently.

"Thursday morning is when we start talking about the fantastic occasion for the people of Merseyside, with Red and Blues going to descend on London and everytime the two teams have played there the supporters have coverted themselves in glory so they are a fantastic advert for the city of  Liverpool and long may it continue."
