"It's always nice to win, but to win convincingly, we went through the gears and got better and better as the 90 minutes went on and I thought we deserved our win today," he said after the game.
"The important thing was to focus on today. It was always in the back of our mind that we've got a massive game next weekend at Wembley, but we want to go to Wembley again in the FA Cup, so today was just as important."
When asked about Andy Carroll, Gerrard added: "He's been brilliant for weeks now and he's getting better and better the more he's settling into the club. We're really pleased for him and I thought he was our man of the match today."
