Former Anfield Academy director Frank McParland is back in football at League One Brentford, barely a fortnight after being sacked by Liverpool FC .

The 54-year-old has been appointed sporting director of the Bees, where he will work with Mark Warburton who has just vacated that role to become first team boss.

The reshuffle was made necessary by Uwe Rosler’s departure to take charge of Championship side Wigan.

McParland has agreed to fill the role until the end of the season.

McParland had been director of Liverpool’s Academy and head of player development until losing his job along with Rodolfo Borrell last month.

He had previously worked at Anfield as chief scout from 2003 to 2007 and held roles at Bolton and Watford before returning to Liverpool in 2009.
