5 Things We Learned From Thursday's Victory

Liverpool are looking stronger with each game

As of recent matches the Liverpool squad seem to show more aggression and challenge we face. After disappointingly losing the Capital One Cup at Wembley, Liverpool came back with a vengeance and completely outplayed Man City in the Premier League, dampening their hopes of further silverware this season. Last weekend could have seen the Redmen become deflated after becoming a 10-man squad at Selhurst Park whilst conceding a goal in the first half. However, this was not the case and Liverpool made sure they came back and gave their all in order to walk away with their heads held high and a valuable three points. Last night was a hard game to call but Liverpool could have easily walked away with a couple more goals under their belt but the squad performed well and maintained a strong concentration, something which is not easily done when United visit.

Benteke is probably gone in the summer

The striker has been placed on the bench again which heightens his summer departure for fans. Many believe and some hope there will be several changes come the summer transfer window as Klopp will want to shape and mould a team he has created rather than continue to work with the team he was left by Rodgers. Whilst the Liverpool defence has been a talking point for a couple of seasons, the other end of the field appears to be bursting. With the return of Sturridge and Coutinho from injuries, Firmino playing well and Ings set to be returning next season, Benteke’s future at the club is unclear.  There have been rumours of West Ham showing an interest in the striker, and Joe Allen may also leave in the summer to Swansea.

Liverpool is better than Manchester

David De Gea could well be one of the best goalkeepers in the footballing world and the sole reason Manchester United are not only in the top half of the table but were only beaten and not embarrassed by Liverpool. Should he leave in the summer, as what is probably owed to him, Manchester United will be in some serious trouble. Consistently being awarded the Man of the Match status when facing Liverpool, he appears to be the only threat in their current squad.

Pundits Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes were both visibly furious last night after watching their former team get beaten comfortably at Anfield. Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson the team has withered with a lack of decent signings, the momentum of their success well and truly fading and the fans appear to be struggling to come to terms with the change in the lack of silverware within their reach. It is a bitter pill to swallow but unfortunately it’s the nature of the game.

Manchester United need to review their chants

It is a notorious rivalry and with that will always come high emotions. Last night disappointedly saw the return of vile chants coming from the United fans regarding Hillsborough. Whilst United have since said the chants "have no place in the game" it did not stop the fans on Thursday evening who chanted ‘the Sun was right' several times and early into the first half.

Whilst you can never place every fan under the same category and tar everyone with the same brush, it is a shame that the minor few who disregard taste and cannot see the bigger picture, are at times seen as a reflection of a group of people, with whom within will be a number of individuals who would not dream of singing such chants.

Louis van Gaal is probably gone in the summer

With speculation circulating the Dutch manager, Thursday’s match at Anfield only further cemented his leave come the summer. Jose Mourinho is obviously the favourite to replace him at Old Trafford and has now came out to say he WILL be the next manager. This will come to no shock to any football fan and most United fans will welcome any manager with open arms (well maybe not David Moyes!).
