A brief history of Liverpool Ladies

1989: Newton Ladies are formed and win the Lancashire International Tournament and reach the Division One and Two Final.

1990: They are beaten finalists again, but win the Red Star Tournament in Southampton.

1991: They enter the first National League under the new name of Knowsley WFC, finish fourth and also win the Lancashire International Tournament for a second time.

1993: They reach the League Cup Final but lose to Arsenal.

1994: They lose in the Womens' FA Cup Final to Doncaster Belles and finish third in the League.

1995: They finally become Liverpool FC LAdies and lose to Arsenal in the Womens' FA Cup Final, but finish runners-up in the League.

1996: They once again lose in the Womens' FA Cup Final.

1996-1999: They maintain mid-table respectability but struggle to develop youngsters and in the summer of 1999 launch a scheme incorporating Liverpool Fed Juniors. There are now five teams of girls aged up to 17. The Under 10's win a cup double.

2001: Liverpool Ladies are relegated from the Womens' Premier League, but win the USA Under 19's Tournament in Chicago.

2002: The Northern Division One side secure their first shirt sponsorship deal, ironically with Manchester-based B&P Screen Print.

If you want to follow the Liverpool Ladies they play their home games at Poulton Victoria FC, Wallasey. Their next home game is against Leeds United this Sunday (19th October).
