Exclusive: Alan Kennedy's View

The result was the most important thing last night. When you go ino any match you want to win the game. Liverpool were better than Manchester City - they had better chances and better players and City's confidence was very low.

After the early goal we didn't pick up the momentum and keep trying. We have to kill teams off and to do that you have to score a second goal. Our play up to the edge of the box was good but there weren't enough shots on goal.

Shaun Wright Phillips' equaliser after half-time, after good work from Steve McManaman, was no more than City deserved, but it was a good response by Steven Gerrard and his team.

I still think we rely too much on certain players. Gerrard has guided this team into fourth position with outstanding performances against Newcastle, Everton and Bolton. i'd like the whole team to have the same mental attitude as him. We need better from them.
Jamie Carragher has come back refreshed from his injury. He looks keen and put himself in goalscoring opportunities, although he knows his defensive duties come first.

Liverpool need to play and gel as a team. I've never seen them outgun any team in the way that Manchester United and Arsenal do. I don't think we are in teir league, but if we can make the Champions League all well and good. We'll have money to play with and strengthen our squad.
