FC Basel v Liverpool - Match Preview

Last updated : 01 October 2014 By Kurt Ellis

In my Merseyside Derby preview, I stated I was not too concerned with the result, as long as we got a better performance. And I think the Reds delivered. Of course, I was disappointed that we conceded the equaliser in the ninety second equaliser as I wanted the clean sheet even more than I wanted the win.

Tonight, we travel to Switzerland to take on FC Basel in our second Champions League match. We were a little lucky (to be fair) to have gotten the result again Ludogorets. The Swiss team has more European pedigree that the Romanians and this will be a tough clash. Basel currently top the Swiss league with seven wins from ten matches.  Their home form however is not the most intimidating with three wins in five matches this season.

The draw was very favourable to us and I believe Liverpool need to collect all three points here if we hope to go through to the next stage. On the positive side, I believe Basel will think they can take all three points from us as well. I predict this match will be an open contest, but I think (and hope) we will be strong enough to get the win.

And our competitors…

Real Madrid travel to Romania to take on the Ludogorets. It may be a little uncomfortable for the Spanish giants, but I cannot see them scoring less the three in this one.
