Five Of The Best

Once again we managed to convincingly triumph over a team lower in the league, and we did so with much ease.

On the pitch, the starting XI included new signing Daniel Sturridge starting up front, and the inclusion of veteran Jamie Carragher in for Martin Skrtel at centre half to partner Daniel Agger. Carragher’s job was clearly to stay on the heels of Norwich striker Grant Holt to stifle the number 9’s ability to hold-up possession and bring Norwich’s midfield into play. Carra carried this job out in full effect, constantly harrying Holt and fully negating the threat.

Daniel Sturridge was once again very impressive, constantly dropping into midfield and linking up with midfielders. The striker also spread the play a few times and his understanding with Suarez seems to be already set. Sturridge’s involvement is a far cry from the “selfish goal poacher” he was billed to be before he joined Liverpool; our frontline looked very fluid and gave Norwich a lot to think about.

Sturridge’s goal – much like the ones against Mansfield and Manchester United – was in typical poacher fashion, which vindicates the notion that we were indeed creating clear-cut chances, but had no one lurking in the box to finish them off.

The game also saw Lucas Leiva have his best game since injury. The Brazilian’s bravery, passing and aggression looks fully intact; however there were a few times – much like against Stoke and Villa – that his defensive positioning was poor.

Jordan Henderson was brilliant once again, supplying pinpoint passes – the one to Downing for Sturridge’s goal was Gerrard-esque – and energy in midfield. His goal was a joy to behold, and he looks full of confidence.

Captain fantastic was brilliant once again in his deep role, spraying passes and getting involved in attacks. Steven Gerrard’s goal surely marks the end of his horrible time with groin injuries; that was a part of Gerrard’s game we haven’t seen in a while.

The Rodgers revolution seems to be taking shape, with him learning from mistakes and, arguably for the first time, looked to properly negate an opponent’s threat with the marking of Grant Holt.

Daniel Sturridge shows off Rodgers’ ability to pick out what Liverpool needs and find the correct player.

With four wins of the last six, and seventeen goals in them, Liverpool are now in a position to push on. The game against Arsenal will be our first big test with a major reward on the line: a chance to potentially overtake Arsenal and push for the top six.
