Frustration at St Mary's

The goalless draw at Southampton was frustrating, but post-match annoyance has since been replaced with a more positive reflection after a few beers, long drive home and a few hours sleep.

After a 12-day international break, with players on duty for their countries across the other side of the world and only a couple of days to recover, its no wonder there were a few jaded lads on that pitch.

Southampton defended well, but rarely looked dangerous. This certainly wasn’t going to be a repeat of the Burnley defeat. Defensively we were composed and able to deal with the few counter-attack threats the home side had to offer.

Remaining unbeaten was a massive positive to take from the game. It’s nice to have long winning runs, but its so much more important to avoid defeats that undermine confidence and raise doubts in our ability to compete for the title.

A draw may not be the progress we would like to see, but it is one point in the right direction. Onward and upward.
