Why we might get him?
He is obviously keen to come to Liverpool as he so nearly did in the summer.
Rafa is clearly a fan and rates this player highly.

Why we might not get him?
Benfica have qualified for the knockout phase of the Champions League, against all expectations. If Simao came to Liverpool, he would miss the chance of playing for Benfica in the competition but couldn’t play for us this season.
Rafa and Rick Parry have shown that they won’t be held ransom over a player’s fee. Benfica have already tried to squeeze more cash out of us before and they may do so again. Rafa may therefore tell them to shove it.

It’s gone very quiet on this deal over recent weeks. There was a lot of rumours in the summer and then after we played Betis in the Champions League.
He is probably Betis’ best chance of surviving relegation.
The value being touted was £12-£15M. I doubt we would pay that for one player.

Why we might get him?
The deal for Agger is at very advanced stages according to reports.
It’s believed that Rafa has been after Agger for some time.
Brondby are keen to sell before his contract expires.
Manc Scum have just signed a central defender so probably won’t need him.
He doesn’t cost £25M so Mourinho won’t be interested in him.

Everything is in Southampton’s interest to keep hold of him for as long as possible. If they sell him in a year, they’ll get considerably more than £3M.

If the deal with Agger falls through, we still need a defender, Zebina can play Centre-back or full-back
