Gerrard's Story Causes A Stir

Last updated : 18 September 2015 By Emma Rhodes

Recently stating his family are very happy in their new home and he loves being a Z-List celebrity who has become a ‘cool’ dad being able to spend more time in public with his girls.

The UK has been keeping a close eye on Gerrard from afar, especially via his Instagram account, but recently he has been surprising many who have been reading the Daily Mail's snippets of his upcoming autobiography, My Story which is released 24th September. 10 years on from his previous autobiography, Gerrard discusses how his career has advanced, the relationships made and the painful losses experienced since lifting ‘Big Ears’ on that eventful night in Istanbul.

Apart from being cleared of a bar punch up in 2009, Gerrard has lived a private, quiet life, considered to be a prime role model for many upcoming players including Jordan Henderson who Gerrard closely monitored before passing over the captain’s armband in the summer. In his book, Gerrard appears to be very open about a number of topics including the infamous slip which many blame for Liverpool missing out on the Premier League title in 2014. Gerrard admits the mistake still haunts him and there is not a day that goes by without him thinking things could have been different. Fearlessly, Gerrard tells readers he sat in the back of the car after leaving the match behind him with tears rolling down his face, something many Liverpool fans will be able to relate to.

More intimate details of the autobiography include the time he experienced a ‘blooded penis’ during the FA Cup clash with Bournemouth last year where he required four stitches and became the changing room laughing stock. Brave extracts have shown Gerrard confessing to feeling his and former Liverpool manager, Rafa Benitez's relationship lacked a certain bond. This is backed up with claims that Rafa only referred to him by surname and during a meet with Gerrard’s mum, the Spaniard simply asked if Steven likes money which confused the young skipper.

On more recent times, Gerrard does explain that being left out of the much anticipated Manchester United clash and European night against Real Madrid cemented his decision to leave his boyhood team. He has since explained he believes this to be due to Rodgers ‘muscle flexing’, wanting to show the press he did not need to depend on strong players like Gerrard to win such matches, but the inexperienced team did not perform to the expected standard.

This week Gerrard has asked fans to be patient regarding the poor start to the season, facing miserable results against West Ham and rivals Man Utd. He admits he liked and respected the management of Rodgers, who he described as generous, and claims his training sessions were some of the best he has experienced.

There will no doubt be more revelations revealed between now and the book launch, but its going to be a read that no Liverpool fan will want to miss.
