Fast forward to last weekend, 11 points from six games for Liverpool and only a solitary point from four by 'title-contenders' Arsenal, and those same fans now believe that third place is within our grasp.
While Saturday's victory was a hard-fought one, displaying the fighting spirit sadly lacking in so many games this season, it was just one game on the road back to the form we need to get where we want to be.
Defeat against Reading may have been a blessing in disguise, leaving the Reds with the Premier League their only focus from now until May.
Arsenal's dip in form, however, may just be that. Two of their three defeats were against Man Utd and Chelsea, so let's not read too much into current form as we look to Wednesday's game against Arsene Wenger's side at the Emirates.
We've not beaten them in the league since 2007 when Peter Crouch proved the difference in a 4-1 win at Anfield. Since then Wenger's young guns have proved their worth. They have already beaten Liverpool twice this season, the last coming from a resurgent second-half display at Anfield in December when everyone in the ground were expecting a home win.
We all hope that Liverpool's run of form and confidence continues but let's not get too carried away. Whether or not we beat Arsenal on Wednesday, Liverpool will continue to push for fourth place - a target that Rafael Benitez insists we will hit. Keep the faith regardless of Wednesday's result.
