Kennedy Exclusive: Get set for The Masters

Last updated : 27 June 2004 By Alan Kennedy
It's a big tournament from our point of view as its the only one we play in that is recognised by the PFA.

We put a strong side out and were unlucky not to win it for the third consecutive year last season, but were beaten by the eventual winners Manchester City in the group stages. One player can change a tournament and City had in Paul Simpson.

We gave it to them rather than they took it. That's not sour grapes, but there was a definite lack of practice from some of the lads.

We are more confident this time around, although John Barnes won't be able to make it. But we'll have a strong team no matter what.

We've switched to the Sheffield Masters group to level out the Premiership clubs a bit, as it didn't make sense to have Liverpool, Everton, Manchester City and Manchester United in the same group.
