Klopp taking Liverpool forward

Last updated : 29 October 2015 By Emma Rhodes

Klopp had previously achieved three draws with the club facing Tottenham, Rubin Kazan and Southampton, although the Spurs game was seen as a positive amongst many fans, believing there were signs of change and improvement amongst the players and their performances.

Klopp chose a young team for the Bournemouth game whilst facing a number of injuries within the squad as well as resting a number of players for the trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The average age of the team was only 24, with some new faces to the team including Cameron Brannagon (19) and Connor Randall as Portuguese João Carlos Teixeira showed great skill and commitment. Goalkeeper Adam Bogdan had a good game along with Firmino who had a number of shots in the first half alone showing dedication and belief, something Klopp has tried to encourage upon his arrival.

Nathaniel Clyne gave Liverpool their only goal of the game, aiding the success of the night which allows Liverpool to go onto the quarter finals of the competition the club has such a reputation within. At the full time whistle Klopp was straight onto the pitch to congratulate his winning team, showing elements of his man-management style, hugging and awarding his team with more encouraging behaviour, something he believes the team needs.

During his post-match interview Klopp described the win as feeling “much better than a draw” whilst showing off his contagious smile and encouraging charisma. Leicester, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United are all out of the Cup, leaving Manchester City, Middlesbrough, Everton, Hull, Stoke, Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton and of course Liverpool to battle it out. Once penalties decided Man United were out of the competition, Liverpool drew Southampton away.

Within the Premier League, Liverpool must now face Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Swansea, Newcastle, West Brom and Watford before Christmas. This Saturday sees Liverpool play Chelsea and whilst Mourinho hasn’t had the best starts to the season, this game can always be a challenge from a threatening team. Liverpool will arrive in London with many injuries, although Klopp has suggested Benteke has been showing potential for returning this weekend whilst skipper Henderson, Sturridge, Ings, Gomez and Toure are definitely ruled out.
