However, LFC Transfer Room quote Sky News Arabia saying a deal for €50m (or roughly £43m) has been agreed. If this is true, which it seems to be, it represents a major coup for Liverpool - who were thwarted by Chelsea in 2014 when they previously tried to bring the 24 year-old to the club.
There have been recent rumours that talks were under way. The player's agent shared a photo of his plane ticket to London recently, shortly after "liking" the club on their Twitter page. Thus it appears that there really was fire where this smoke came from. There's been no official word from the club, but let's see what happens.
In other transfer news, Liverpool's reported No. 1 transfer target, Virgil van Dijk has agreed terms to go to Manchester City. However, there is word that an agreement has already been struck with the Dutchman so I don't think we've heard the last of this saga. There is still belief that something can be done with the feeder club on the south coast.
This news comes as Liverpool have already secured the series of Chelsea prospect Dominic Solanke on a free transfer. Clearly, the Reds are not resting on their laurels this season and are really looking to be bringing in genuine quality for a change. Watch this space for more.
