Liverpool future looks fine and Yankee doodle dandy

The announcement that the Board had accepted the bid from Gillett and Hicks came sooner than expected, but the reaction from most Reds was one of relief.

It's a sad day aswell, with the club passing from the Moores family to American investors, but the time for reflection must be brief.

The new investment we have been craving is at last in place, and the new owners don't want to waste anytime.

The stadium move looks back on track, Rafa will get a more than decent transfer kitty, and the Press conference proved that the new owners have listened to what the supporters have had to say.

I can't really blame David Moores for not attending the Press conference. It must have been a huge wrench selling the club on when you are as committed a supporter as Mr Moores, but he's done the right thing. And made avery tidy profit.

He's been an excellent chairman for the club, and bar a couple of emotional decisions made in his early days as chairman, he has done exactly what a chairman of a football club should do; stay in the background, support the management and players and dip into your pocket every now and then.

The trouble was that the Moores pockets weren't quite as deep as they needed to be to compete effectively.

All the best Mr Moores, and thank youfor your commitment to our great club.

Or should that be franchise?! You can't blame Hicks and Gillett from slipping into American sports vernacular. I'm just glad that they seem more than willing to learn about the club, history and traditions, as well as the English game overall.

The only fly in the ointment was the issue of stadium naming rights, but that's an argument for another more advanced day. Now is the time to be optimistic and to get to know the new owners.

There will still be links with the old guard, with Moores as President and Rick Parry staying as Chief Executive (which is great news; he is the best administrator in the Premiership).

The advice given by Moores and Parry will be vital in keeping the owners in touch with what the club is all about (Yes, Mr Gillett, you're right, it's about winning things!) and what us supporters expect.
