Liverpool: Stalking their prey

Last updated : 20 October 2002 By Chris Maddox
Some early uncertainity in Europe and a few, unfortunate surrendering of leads at Anfield aside, Liverpool are without question in aggressive Championship acquiring form.

We have been introduced to a more flowing, attack-minded Liverpool that has admirably kept pace with an ever impressive Arsenal.

In terms of goals against and goals for, there is very little to seperate the two sides. With Arsenal, perched at the top of the table possessing a mere 2 points adavntage.

Yet despie being unbeaten, and equipped with an attack as prolific as Arsenal’s, acknowledgment from the media of Liverpool’s title credentials has been non-exsistent. They remain unimpressed.

Instead we are told that this seasons championship race will be a titanic two horse struggle between the North Londoners and Man Utd. From just about every corner of the press, Liverpool have been ludicrously omitted from the title equation.

It has been forgotten that Liverpool had an exceptional season in both the league and Europe last term. A season that would have seen Liverpool champions had it not been for an outstanding Arsenal. It has been forgotten also that Man utd were left embarrassingly behind, struggling to qualify for the Champions League.

People have a tendancey to devote irrational compassion towards the prey of the hunter. Like a gazelle siezed by the lion. It can be hard to except that its end is inevitable, the way of things.

In the same respect, the media continue to ignore the power shift that has so obviously taken place. Manchester United have fallen to the dusty ground - wounded and dying.

While the stalking, power hungry Liverpool prepare to draw their teeth.
