Roman Pavlyuchenko scored a dramatic late winner to take Spurs off the bottom of the table after Jamie Carragher's own goal had gifted them an implausible equaliser.
Liverpool had enough chances to bury Spurs but under Redknapp this team has instantly developed an admirable resilience and a belief that fortune will smile on them. Onwards the Redknapp revolution.
There was no doubting the euphoria which Spurs brought into this game. The spectacular comeback in the midweek 4-4 draw with Arsenal was re-run on the big screens to cheers from the fans. It took all of three minutes to bring them back down to earth, though.
Alvaro Arbeloa's throw-in found Keane without challenge and the Irishman turned Ledley King, his former team-mate, with far too much ease. The ball ran to Kuyt who caught the ball cleanly, arching powerfully over Heurelho Gomes in the Tottenham goal.
Just a couple of minutes later there was nearly an embarrassing second concession. Steven Gerrard sent over a corner to the near post, which looked straightforward for Darren Bent to clear.
However Bent made a complete hash of it and almost scored an own goal. Redknapp was shaking his head.
The home side did eventually calm down and start to build, with Luka Modric the hub of their best work. The Croatian went close himself five minutes before the break.
Holding off Xabi Alonso, he squeezed a laced shot through a the closing defenders. Reina was blindsighted but reacted smartly blocking the shot and gathering at the second attempt.
On a slick surface the challenges were flying in. Riera went through Modric, Woodgate did the same to Keane but only Gerrard's lunge on Woodgate brought a booking. It was scrappy stuff and Liverpool were squeezing the life out of their opponents.
Redknapp reacted radically. He pulled off Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Jamie O'Hara and sent on Alan Hutton and Pavlyuchenko. Corluka switched to left back and Modric took the left-wing role.
Redknapp's half-time rhetoric had but a fleeting effect, as Liverpool started ruthlessly puling Tottenham to pieces. Kuyt's shot was blocked by a combination of Woodgate and King before dropping to Gerrard whose first-time deflected off King's elbow and looked to be going in.
Enter the much-maligned Gomes, hurling himself across goal and tipping the ball onto the post with his finger tips. A sublime save. It was back to the ridiculous moments later, Gomes selling King short with a ludicrous undercooked pass.
Keane nipped in and passed to Gerrard whose attempt to lob the hapless Brazilian came back off the bar.
Liverpool's failure to convert a series of chances allowed Spurs to force their way back. The equaliser came when Bentley's corner was delivered with whip and Carragher, under pressure from the leaping King, contrived to head down and beyond Reina.
Tottenham might even have won it in the closing minutes. Reina's errant punch went straight to Pavlyuchenko but with time to pick his spot the Russian shot wildly. He made sure just moments later with his extraordinary late goal.
