Magic Kingdom for sale

It had been reported, they stated, that Fenway Sports Group were now willing to sell the club for the sum of £350m. Their source for this story? The front page of The Sun. So it must be the truth because The Sun wouldn't tell a lie on it's front page would it? No previous for that at all.

That both FSG and Liverpool as a club denied the claim in the strongest possible terms pointing out that, as with previous such stories, there was no truth in the report whatsoever was buried deep in the middle of the piece. Instead, Sky chose to focus on the fact that Liverpool have had three different owners in the last six years.

This is, of course, true; FSG, the two cowboys and David Moores. It would, however, be equally true to claim that LFC have had three owners in approximately 60 years; FSG, the cowboys and the Moores Family who served as perfectly fine custodians until football became the business of billionaires, corporations and trust funds rather than simply millionaire businessmen.

But why bother letting accuracy get in the way of a good slice of sensationalism? Denials are no fun, let's report speculation as though it were fact, let's make the news about what might be if we're not in a position to report an actual story.

Let's ignore the parts if Luis Suarez' interviews where he says that he is a Liverpool player with a contract; ignore the fact that he was the last person off the pitch in Melbourne, signing autographs and talking to his teammates and opponents and concentrate on the fact that he didn't celebrate wildly his assist for a 93rd minute goal in a friendly match. His body language was wrong, he must be going.

Do you know who knows what's happening in the Suarez transfer saga? Suarez, his agent, Brendan Rodgers, Ian Ayre, FSG.

Do you know who knows what's happening in the business side of LFC? FSG and Ian Ayre.

And none of these people are talking to The Scum.

Opposing fans will claim that Liverpool fans are conspiracy theorists; always seeing a media agenda where there is none.

Is the media concentrating on the David Moyes' 'rabbit in the headlights' press conferences or Manchester United's inability to land their major transfer target. Are the reporters who insisted that Suarez was a despicable individual who should never play in this country again arguing that Arsenal should not attempt to pursue their cut price transfer strategy or are they simply wheeling out ex-Gooners to talk about how powerful Arsenal will be 'when' they sign Suarez.

So, the media's approach to Liverpool then?

It's not paranoia if they are out to get you.
