Moreno a Liability

Last updated : 15 August 2016 By Adam Bryant

Who could forget the torrid gaffs made during the Europa League Final against Sevilla? Sunday’s blunders at Arsenal only stengthened the argument that a new left-back has to be Jurgen Klopp’s priority in the remaining two weeks of the transfer window, although we all know how prices go up on deadline day.

Having spent £70m on seven new players - two goalkeepers, two centre-backs, two midfielders and a winger - it seems strange that we are still stuck with Moreno at left-back. Fair enough, we lost the chance to bring in Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell, and Klopp has also spoken about James Milner’s future as a left-back, but surely bringing in a tried and tested replacement for Moreno should be top of Jurgen’s to-do list.

Hopefully Milner will be fit in time to face Burnley, so we can see how well he fits into that new role. Ragnar Klavan and Nathaniel Clyne could also fill in if needed. Alternatively, we do still have a fortnight to solve the problem properly, with an experienced left-back who can slot in and get the job done.
