My Worst Premiership Liverpool XI - Part 2

Last updated : 16 October 2013 By Iain Brown

2 Right Back - José Miguel González Rey, aka Josemi

josemiThe man who celebrated in Istanbul like he’d won the cup all by himself. He was Rafas first signing and early indications weren’t too bad but very quickly it appeared clear that he was sadly out of his depth.

Josemi fought off strong competition from Jan Kromkamp and Philip Deegan to secure my right back berth and for that he should be very proud.

Since leaving us he’s had six different clubs, five of which have moved him on after two seasons or less.  The 33 year old is now plying his trade in the ironically named Greek Super League with F.C. Skoda Xanthi. Enough said.

3 Left Back - Djimi Traore

traoreTraore sees off the peoples favorite Paul Konchesky and that’s no easy task. Djimi will always have a Champions League winners medal to wave in the face of critics but they will respond by mentioning one of the most ridiculous own goals in professional football. Running towards the byline Djimi attempted a Cruyff turn and in so doing scored a goal that will forever delight Burnley fans. Traores playing style was akin to a new born Deer, staggering around, attempting to stand and walk for the first time.

As chants go though Traores was one of the Kops best...
Don't blame it on the Biscan, Don't blame it on the Hamann, Don't blame it on the Finnan, Blame it on Traore, He just can't, He just can't, He just can't control his feet.

Also 33, he now plays for Seattle Sounders FC.

4 Centre Back – Phil Babb

babbCommanding, Composed, Elegant, a true leader. If only Phil could have been one of those. It says everything that Babb is most remembered for colliding with a goal post and coming off very much second best. All inside Anfield didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, perhaps it was the Football Gods exacting their revenge for crimes against the sport.

Phil Babb’s career can be neatly encapsulated by his last appearance for the Republic of Ireland. Phil entered the fray in the 85th minute to tighten things up at the back. His first touch was a precise finish past the goalkeeper, unfortunately, it was an own goal.

5. Centre Back - Torben Piechnik

piechnikTorben reminded me of Nicky Tanner; in the respect that prior to kick-off I was bitterly disappointed when I saw his name on the team sheet.

Part of the Danish 1992 European Cup winning squad he was a player who gave his all and always remained popular with the fans.

However this team is all about ability and paired with Phil Babb the central defence is as leaky as a holey roof in a tropical rainstorm.
