Not so Good Friday

No sooner had Alan Wiley blown the final whistle than the bookies were preparing their book for Houllier's dismissal. He's now odds on favourite to pack his bags at the end of the season.

Some say that Liverpool's defeat at Arsenal wasn't such a shock and it is clubs like Newcastle and Charlton that we should be beating.

But a win over the Gunners would have given the supporters hope that we can still compete against the best in the Premiership, rather than fight for the scraps with the also-rans.

It's a bitter pill to swallow when you take an unexpected early lead and remain ahead at half-time.

One criticism constantly aimed at Houllier is his over-cautious approach, particularly when ahead in a game. Once again, dour defensive tactics failed, leaving the manager to recite his excuses to the press.

"Tell Thierry to do the same against Newcastle" he pleaded. Say no more.
