Piotr Zielinski: A young Marco Reus?

Last updated : 13 April 2016 By Sam May

The 21-year old centre midfielder, who is currently on-loan at Empoli from Udinese, has been in fine form in Italy this season. But where is his best position? He has been used as a central midfielder, but of late in an attacking role alongside Riccardo Saponara.

The technically accomplished youngster can play out wide on the wings as well, or in the hole as a false number 10 behind a lone frontman, such as Empoli's Massimo Maccarone. So why the new Reus?

Like the Borussia Dortmund playmaker, Zielinski has blistering pace, and is good with the ball at his feet. He works well in tight spaces, a good space finder, can go past his opponent, and has a great work rate. It’s all of this, which also draws comparisons with the Borussia Dortmund playmaker.

German coach Joachim Low previously said about Marco Reus: I'd like to see him right up front as an out-and-out striker. He turns incredibly quickly, he’s agile, lively and finishes well. He’s never played the position before, but it’s worth thinking about.” Zielinski is already there - and is five years younger.

If brought in, Klopp could potentially mold the player into an attacking midfield role or as a winger it seems. Having brought in 19-year old Serbian centre midfielder Marko Grujic, who will head to Merseyside in summer ahead of pre-season preparations, this could be another factor in the positional switch.

Likewise, Borussia Monchengladbach youngster Mamoud Dahoud, 20, has also been linked with a move. Another centre midfielder, so if the Reds were to land Zielinski its probably to bolster the attacking options.
