Something to sing about

For the last two or three seasons there has been an air of discontent at Anfield. Some players were booed for their poor performances, while generally there was a lack of faith in Gerard Houllier's tactics. His five-year sentence, sorry plan, had come to an end.

Having just watched our display against Norwich the transformation, in only six Premiership games, is amazing. It shows just how low we got last season.

Houllier quickly instilled the ability to avoid defeat into the Liverpool squad. By avoiding defeat we were able to progress to three trophies in 2001 (five if you count the Super Cup and Charity Shield).

However, it was our inability to win matches that let us down. Too many times lower-quality clubs came to Anfield with one thing in mind - hold out for a draw, and too many times we were unable to break them down.

Only a couple of months into his term Rafael Benitez has demonstrated his commitment to positive, attacking football.

After Monday's defeat at Manchester United, in which Liverpool conceded two goals because of poor defending, the Spaniard was asked if the team had been working on their defence in training.

"No, we are at home on Saturday. We have been working on our attack!" was his reply. And attack we did.

There has been a lot of criticism of the fans who have not got behind the team in the past, but it is very difficult to cheer on eleven men who often don't appear to want the win as much as we do.

Now, finally we have something to sing about.
