That was the week then was it?

Who can honestly say they would prefer anyone form Arsenal, Man Utd or Newcastle’s defence?

Babbel would appear to have played his last game for the club and disregarding all we hear about his attitude; Jamie Redknapp will tell him that it’s near on impossible to get your career going again at a big club after a long lay off.

At times this season, Traore reminded me of the Babb/McAteer days when you expected the opposition to score every time they had the ball. I’m not convinced he is even a decent player to have in reserve. If Houllier does bring Finnan or another centre back to the club, surely his days are numbered. Biscan has trained as defensive cover this season but I doubt he is a long term solution and I’m sure any decent offer for him would be accepted.

Carragher may think he has to worry if Finnan is bought (which was supposedly a done deal) but I don’t believe the Irishman will walk straight into the side at Carra’s expense. Riise may move to left midfield if on-one is brought in to play there and Carra may resume the left back role he successfully occupied during the cup winning year.

In conclusion, we pretty much have the best defence in the league but it requires some back up having suffered long term injures to Babbel and Henchoz.
