That Was The Week Then Was It?

It would seem as though our revival has firmly arrived back at square one. Five points in six games might be too much to make up, especially with a Hyypia ban upcoming and Henchoz still out. If Liverpool do finish 4th it would be a lie to say we deserve it.

Saturday’s game was wreaked after four minutes and like most message board posts I’ve read, it ended not with a penalty or a sending off, but the substitution of Baros. Liverpool did not manage a shot on target for the entire game, nothing sort of disgraceful. I don’t care what the current Heskey opinion is; I don’t think anybody apart from Houllier thought he would be more of a goal threat than Baros.
It would seem every manager has one player he refuses to drop. It is an attempt to prove to the world and the club chairman that he has not wasted £11M. Houllier’s championing of Heskey has already forced Fowler and Litmanen out of the club. Heskey, much like Smicer, is a player who is fine if the team is winning and completely anonymous when the side is losing. Heskey was nowhere to be found on Saturday. That is not an opinion of the player but just the facts that millions saw for themselves. He did play on his own but we all know that at some point, Baros would have got his head down and run at the one paced Manchester defence.
To end on a bright note I would say this. Failure to qualify for the Champions League should only make the team more desperate to win the Premiership next season. With a fit and on form Owen, Gerard, Murphy, Hamann, Riise, Henchoz, Hyypia and Dudek I really think it is possible.
