What should we do with Rodgers?

Many fans react to the most recent result rather than the bigger picture. If Liverpool had beaten Aston Villa and booked their place in the FA Cup final then very few fans would be calling for Brendan Rodgers to be sacked. Disappointing results in the league since then have further fuelled this view, but is that really what we want?

After finishing seventh two years ago, we overachieved last season. None of us expected us to finish second and play some of the very best football Liverpool have played in the last 25 years.

Rodgers may be the first Liverpool manager since Phil Taylor in 1959 to go three successive years without winning a major accolade, but he's also the manager who took us closest to winning the Premier League title. There's no doubt that this season has been massively disappointing and a step backwards, but we're not miles off the pace of the top four.

So what's the alternative? Jurgen Klopp is the obvious choice. He's left Dortmund and if we were going to go for him this summer will probably be our only chance. However, what if we sack Rodgers, bring in Klopp and finish fifth next season? Would he then be pushed aside for next summer's best available manager?

Many on social media would be happy to keep changing managers every year, but thankfully FSG are less fickle and have a bigger plan that involves investing in a young manager who is able to bring through young stars and eventually take Liverpool back up to the top.
