YNWA - Make It Special

Last updated : 11 January 2006 By Mark Grimes
George plays the whole song now and at full volume, back in the day, it was just the opening first verse, then the Kop took over.

It's disappointing we don't give it the respect it deserves! We all know its power! We all know it's the greatest song ever written, it has so many emotions, it generates so much raw emotional feeling. It can make you so proud, so happy, and bring the tears down your cheeks, quicker than slicing an onion.

Even Rafa said he now knows the lyrics and its meaning and at times he has to stop singing it as he chokes! (I love this fella!)

Emulating the full force we gave before, during and after the Chelsea game is pretty difficult, and probably asking too much.

So what is the remedy? To bring it back to full power, to really make the lads feel special, to really make us feel we are contributing to another vital win on what is, to some, another normal grey afternoon, a match day.

For a start - sing it, and with a bit of gusto!. If you don't get to many games, learn it before you get here, and don't bloody applaud halfway through it.

I usually dedicate it to one of the family or one of my mates, or those we've lost, just to make it special for me and them, and I tell them. "That one is for you mate" I text my brother in Dubai.

We all have to start bringing a scarf to the game - hey its not the 80's anymore lads, the little badge on a Pringle jumper has had its day. Look how good YNWA looks at Celtic when all the scarf's are raised. Remember how good it was before the start of the Chelsea game. It's time to bring the old one out of the drawer or buy a new one.

Flag Day is special, but so is every game! Big thanks to the lads with big flags that are at every home game, they look great.

It's time to make its special again. Rafa has got us winning, the team is taking shape and the Reds are coming up the hill boys!

Let's play our part at home games. Stand up, raise yer scarf and sing with all yer heart, You'll Never Walk Alone.

God Bless the 96
