Dietmar Hamann was signed from Newcastle United by Gerard Houllier as a replacement for Paul Ince.
He did not get on with Newcastle boss Ruud Gullit and was refused to play for the Magpies, demanding a move to Liverpool.
Since arriving at Anfield he has settled in well and is a good, quality attacking central midfielder, scoring some excellent goals from direct free kicks.
Hamann has struggled with persistent injuries in recent seasons and been unable to command a regular first team place because of this.
He played his part in Liverpool's 2004/05 season and signed an extension to his contract at the end of it.
