Harry Kewell

Harry Kewell was the signing Liverpool fans had been dreaming of. The talented forward's transfer to the club he had supported all his life took months to happen and became back page news as his agent negotiated a discount price plus a nice tidy fee for himself, leaving Leeds United with very little to show for the player they had nurtured through their youth system.

After arriving at Liverpool there was a lot of debate about where Gerard Houllier would play Kewell, with the manager experimenting with several positions during the pre-season friendlies.

The Aussie also took the famous number 7 shirt from Vladimir Smicer - the shirt made famous by Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish.

His first season at Anfield wasn't as successful as we had all hoped, but Kewell did struggle with a persistent ankle injury throughout much of it.

2004/05 was similar, with many supporters becoming frustrated with Kewell's apparent lack of commitment.
