Since 1997 Jamie Carragher has been a regular in the first team. He is able to play in a central midfield position of in the centre of defence.

Carragher has captained the England U21 team and now has several full international caps.

In Markus Babbel's absence Carragher has made the right-back position his own during the last couple of seasons, but unfortunately missed out on a place in England's squad for the 2002 World Cup after picking up a knee injury.

Since Steve Finnan's arrival from Fulham Carragher's place in the first team has been under threat. He then broke his leg in Liverpool's game at Blackburn early in the 2003/04 season, keeping him out of action for six months.

He returned more determined than ever, proving how important he is to Liverpool, and earning a place in the England squad for Euro 2004.

Carragher proved himself again in 2004/05 as Liverpool went on to win the European Cup. His contribution was immense.
