The French midfielder, who had yet another good game against Everton, is determined to succeed at Anfield.

"It has been a very frustrating period for me and what I really want is for the past to be forgotten," he said. "Last year is finished - now I'm thinking only of 2004 and starting again.

"I hope I can be a success at Liverpool, that's why I joined this club. The time for me to be patient or for people to be patient with me is over.

"I wanted to make a fresh start this season and I thought I did well in pre-season and felt good. I started in the team when we played Chelsea at Anfield, but after that I was forced out with an injury to my back then I broke my toe.

"I think I've been a bit unlucky but I never gave up. I've tried hard in training, hoping a second chance would come my way."
