The eagerly-awaited friendly match will be watched by a capacity crowd of 21,500 at Pittodrie as the home fans anticipate what they know to be a rare chance to see their side in action against Liverpool.

"It's great to hear that the game is a sell out," said the club's assistant manager Duncan Shearer. "We can't take our foot off the pedal against Liverpool because they are the kind of team who could give you an absolute doing."

"But it will be fantastic for the fans - who knows when Liverpool will be here again? I can't see us playing them in the Champions League shortly. I think the supporters have realised that and we'll all make the most of it."
