The reserves drew 1-1 with League One side Stockport County yesterday in what was a tough, physical game. Gary Ablett was pleased with the way his team aquitted themselves yesterday afternoon.

"We competed really well and looked quite dangerous on the break," the reserve team boss told liverpoolfc.tv.

"We learned a lot from last week's defeat at Peterborough and this was a much improved performance. We had to work really hard but I'm really pleased with the lads. The spirit and attitude from all of them was first class.

"Gerardo scored an excellent goal and it was good for me to be able to give the Academy lads Alex Kacaniklic, Nathan Eccleston, David Amoo and Jack Metcalf some action.

"We didn't play Krisztian Nemeth because he had a slight knock and I didn't want to take any risks in case Rafa wants him for the first team friendly with Villarreal on Wednesday."
