The reserves got their first league win under new coach Gary Ablett when they beat Wigan 2-0 last night. After the game Ablett spoke of his delight with the result.

"I am delighted to get our first win and we pulled together to put on a great team performance," the former Liverpool full-back told liverpoolfc.tv.

"I know we are all about developing players and giving them experience at reserve team level but winning breeds confidence and hopefully this will give the boys confidence for the rest of the season.

"In the majority of the games we have played this season we have played really well but we haven't made the opposition goalkeeper work enough. We scored two good goals against Wigan and could have had a few more.

"It's just unfortunate we haven't got another game for five weeks now but we have some friendly games lined up away at Wolves and Oldham."
