The reserves won their first competitive game of 2008 to return to the top of the league when they beat Bolton 3-0 away from home last night.

"Daniel has been very patient waiting for his chance and he did very well. He has got great close control and he can make things happen. He took his goal very well," Ablett told the club's official website after the match.

"It was also nice to see Nathan come off the bench to score. Great credit to the young man for the penalty. He wanted to take it and he put it away against Ian Walker who has played goodness knows how many Premier League games.

"He has been playing well for the Under-18s and it was great to have him in our squad, and to see him score is a good sign for the future.

"This was our first competitive game since we beat Middlesbrough on December 10, and the lads were itching for a game after the friendly matches we have played. I'm very pleased with our second half display.
"I have to say I thought we were very poor in the first half but we were much better in the second, and it was nice to get three points and go back to the top of the league.

"Mikel San Jose and Ronald Huth were outstanding at the back for us and they laid the foundations for this victory. They competed very well and were physically very strong and dominant."
