Goalscorers Xabi Alonso and Harry Kewell played 90 minutes while Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel got a half each as Liverpool reserves beat Man Utd 2-0 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium last night. After the match Ablett praised the attitude of the first teamers.

"Manchester United are one of our biggest rivals no matter what level you play at and I thought we deserved our win," the reserve team coach told the club's official website.

"We are pleased with the performance. It was nice to see Daniel back and Martin as well who was solid as a rock.

"Xabi and Harry showed 100 per cent professionalism and they both did very well. Harry hasn't played much of late but he scored a very good goal and that will benefit him.

"Krisztian did really well for the penalty and we are pleased with him and the progress he is making.

"It's nice to be where we are at the top but we must keep improving as individual players and as a group. We have got five really tough games left and we want to keep it going and stay at the top."
