Academy lads to get Champions League chance

New UEFA regulations state that from next year every club competing in Europe must have four home-grown players in their named squad of 25. UEFA also hope to increase the quota to seven players by 2007 and eight by 2008.

Liverpool currently have Steven Gerrard, Stephen Warnock, David Raven, Neil Mellor, Zak Whitbread, Jon Welsh and Darren Potter as part of their first-team squad so they should have no problems adapting to the new rule. So far, Gerrard, Mellor, Warnock and Potter have all played for the Reds in Europe.
