Phil Townley, John Paul Kelly and Michael Burns scored for the Reds.

"We started off brightly and did well with our possesion, but we didn't have the penetration to go with it," Shannon told the Daily Post after the game. "The second half was a super game."

"It was an excellent team performance, but Danny Guthrie had a great game. The defence did well with Jordan Holmes, who was back after sus-pension, and Adam Hitchen standing out.

"And it was good to see Joxer (Kelly) come back with a goal, while Phil Townley worked really hard up front."

Meanwhile, John Owens' Under 19's suffered defeat at the hands of Blackburn Rovers. Mark Smyth scored the Reds' goal in the game, which ended 2-1.

"In the first half they were the better side," admitted Owena. "We didn't start too well.

"They scored early on and caught us cold. We didn't play like we have done recently.

"In the second half we were much better, but they scored in injury time. Nobody likes to lose but when you do like that it is disappointing."
