"With the appointment of any manager there is always the element of risk. But as far as foreign managers go his track record is excellent," says the former Liverpool number 8.
"He's done really well at Valencia. He's turned them into a major force in Spanish and European football. Liverpool have suffered at their feet on a couple of occasions. We know only too well how good his team was.
"He's very highly thought of. I thought for a while, with Real Madrid changing managers they may have has a look at him. For whatever reason that never happened but if he does for Liverpool what he did in Spain there'll be no-one moaning and the phone-in's will be easier for me!"
