Aldo bets on Owen

The former Liverpool striker believes Owen, who has failed to hit the net in his last nine games for the Reds, is only going through a patch and will once again be knocking them in.

"I have kept on backing him to score the first goal and will continue to do so," said Aldridge. "All strikers go through patches like this and Michael is no exception. Wait and see - once he gets one he will get more.

"When you get that first goal it's a huge psychological weight off your shoulders. You always have your critics but I honestly don't think anyone can criticise him because his work-rate is so good.

"You can see his frustration. He has been dragging defenders out of position to give some of his teammates a chance.

"What he wants is someone alongside him who is scoring 15 goals a season. That would take a big weight off his shoulders."
