All Hou needs is Diouf

Diouf, who arrived at Anfield with a big reputation and a £10m price tag, struggled to reproduce the scintillating skills that thrust him into the limeligt during the 2002 World Cup in his first season with the club but Houllier's patience has been rewarded in great style.

Houllier said: "He took a while to come to terms with the English game, but he is getting better and stronger.

"He can operate on the right or the left, and he has that priceless ability to go past defenders and to open things up for us. That can be so important when games are tight.

"Some areas of his game can still improve, but I know one thing - if he was English, he would be in the national team on a regular basis, maybe even filling that problem position on the left."

How good is El Hadji Diouf?
